Full Journal pdf1998-04-27 Senate Journal Page 3524 HJR 53 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 53 Relating to support for federal legislation providing for the continuation of the University of Alaska by the conveyance of federal land to the university, which had been held in second reading with Amendment No. 1 pending (page 3487) was before the Senate. Senator Duncan moved and asked unanimous consent to withdraw Amendment No. 1. Without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Duncan offered Amendment No. 2 : Page 2, line 8, following "refuges;": Insert "and WHEREAS reasonable amendments can be made to S. 660 relating to the transfer of federal lands in the Tongass National Forest and the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska;" Page 2, lines 9 - 11: Delete all material and insert: "BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature urges Senator Murkowski to continue working with representatives of the State of Alaska and the University of Alaska to consider amendments that will address the land grant deficiency of the University of Alaska and be in the best interest of the state; and be it FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature respectfully urges the Congress of the United States to pass and the President to sign S. 660 as expeditiously as possible." Senator Duncan moved and asked unanimous consent for the adoption of Amendment No. 2. Without objection, Amendment No. 2 was adopted. Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the resolution be considered engrossed, advanced to third reading and placed on final passage.
